Marking its 50th anniversary, LIG Nex1 will change its name to "LIG Defense & Aerospace" (hereafter LIG D&A).
Chief Executive Officer Shin Ik-hyeon of LIG Nex1 said on the 5th at the 2026 kickoff ceremony held at Pangyo House, "This year marks the 50th anniversary of LIG Nex1's founding and the first year of a new start toward the next 100 years."
That day, Shin announced three core management policies to achieve sustainable growth amid the rapidly changing domestic and global business environment. He said, "Last year, based on our accumulated technology and solid teamwork, we achieved remarkable results in guided weapons, air-launched munitions, electronic warfare, unmanned systems, and space," and added, "This year, through ▲ building a global foundation ▲ innovating R&D speed ▲ establishing a culture of communication, let's make it a year to take another step forward as a true defense industry leader."
The plan to change the company name was also unveiled. The new name "LIG D&A" emphasizes its identity (DNA) as a defense contractor and reflects the intention to expand its business scope "to the world, to space, to the future." LIG Nex1 plans to finalize the name change through the upcoming regular general meeting of shareholders.
At the kickoff ceremony, the "Nex1 Person of the Year Award" was also presented. The honor went to Director General Yu Gyeong-deok (Geostationary Satellite Development Division), who played a key role last year in winning the contract for the Cheollian-5 satellite and in its technology development. Yu was recognized for contributions to strengthening the company's space industry capabilities and securing future growth engines.
