Hanwha Aerospace (Hanwha Aero) signed a contract worth 5.6 trillion won to supply guided missiles for the "Chunmoo," a multiple rocket guided weapon system, to Poland. This is the third contract following 2022 and 2024, and Hanwha Aerospace has achieved a total of 13 trillion won in exports to Poland related only to Chunmoo.
At the contract signing ceremony held on the 29th (local time) at the Polish Army Museum in Warsaw, Armaments Agency Director Artur Kupte, WB Group Chairman Piotr Wojciech, and Hanwha Aerospace CEO Son Jae-il signed the agreement.
Kang Hoon-sik, presidential chief of staff; Office of National Security First Deputy Director Kim Hyun-jong; Defense Acquisition Program Administration Commissioner Lee Yong-chul; Ministry of National Defense Resources Management Director Won Jong-dae; Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz; and Polish Ministry of National Defense Vice Minister Paweł Bejda and other key officials from both countries also attended.
Kang said, "The third Chunmoo contract goes beyond simply making weapons in Korea and exporting them to Poland. The two countries will establish a joint venture in Poland and build a factory to produce together," adding, "Just as cooperation between the two countries in politics, the economy and security has continued to develop, defense industry cooperation has also entered a higher stage."
He added, "I hope a virtuous cycle will firmly take root in which trust built in security leads to industry, and industrial cooperation expands again into cooperation between future generations," and said, "We will be the strongest partner that will not waver in the face of any challenge."
As Kang noted, this is the third contract. Hanwha Aerospace previously signed a basic contract with the Polish government in 2022 for the export of Chunmoo launchers and guided missiles. It then signed the first implementation contract in Nov. of the same year worth about 5 trillion won, and the second implementation contract in 2024 worth about 2 trillion won, supplying Chunmoo launchers and guided missiles to Poland. Including this third contract, the supply totals 12.6 trillion won.
This third implementation contract is an achievement made as "European defense bloc-ization," which encourages the priority purchase of European-made weapons through the European Union's recently created Secure Action for Europe fund, deepens. Hanwha Aerospace CEO Son Jae-il said, "We extend our deep gratitude for the full support and efforts at the national level," and added, "We will work to ensure that K-defense can also contribute to strengthening Korea's security."
