Samsung Heavy Industries said on the 23rd it signed a contract with a shipowner in Oceania for two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers for 743 billion won. The ships are scheduled to be delivered to the owner in sequence by March 2029.
With this contract, Samsung Heavy Industries has won orders this year totaling $7.4 billion, including nine LNG carriers, nine shuttle tankers, nine container ships, two ethane carriers, 11 crude oil carriers, and one preliminary work contract for an offshore production facility.
The shipbuilding institutional sector secured workloads stably with a portfolio of various ship types and won $6.6 billion this year, surpassing the target of $5.8 billion. For offshore production facilities, the company plans to complete the follow-up procedures to the preliminary work and the contract for one newbuild as soon as possible.
As of today this year, Samsung Heavy Industries' accumulated order backlog stands at 132 ships ($28.3 billion).
A Samsung Heavy Industries official said, "An order strategy focused on profitability, based on a sufficient order backlog, proved effective," and added, "We will actively respond to the changing market environment."
