SK Nexilis, an investment company in SKC's copper foil business, said on the 21st that it became the first in the battery industry to obtain Copper Mark, an international ESG (environment, social, and governance) certification.
Copper Mark is an ESG standard for the global copper value chain used by automakers and battery manufacturers to verify the sustainability management systems of their supply chains.
SK Nexilis officially obtained Copper Mark last month, nearly two years after it began pursuing the certification in Dec. 2023, completing all procedures including on-site audits and expert verification.
The Copper Mark obtained this time is RRA (Risk Readiness Assessment) 3.0, the latest due diligence standard that comprehensively evaluates corporations' risk management framework and operating level across 32 key ESG elements, including environment, human rights, safety and health, business ethics, local communities, and governance. SK Nexilis passed all items at the highest level, "fully meets."
Across the global battery supply chain recently, there has been a growing move to verify ESG risks in advance starting from the materials and supplies procurement stage. The trend is increasingly clear toward preferring partners that have undergone credible ESG verification for key materials, including copper.
