Jeju Air said on the 18th that its specialized subsidiary for aircraft ground handling and air transport support services, Jeju Air Service (JAS), obtained ISO 45001, the international standard for occupational health and safety management systems from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
The certification covered all ground handling services performed by JAS—such as passenger and baggage handling, refueling, and equipment and maintenance support—as well as the overall aviation ground handling environment, including branches nationwide.
To obtain the certification, JAS made the prevention of serious accidents and the enhancement of industrial occupational safety and health standards its top priorities and established a practical safety and health management system tailored to the characteristics of the aviation ground handling industry.
Specifically: ▲ overhauling compliance systems for relevant laws including the Serious Accidents Punishment Act and the Occupational Safety and Health Act ▲ advancing risk assessments and redefining management systems for high-risk work ▲ strengthening safety management processes for partners (subcontracting and services) ▲ expanding worker participation programs such as on-site TBM (Tool Box Meeting) and safety campaigns.
A JAS official said, "As aviation ground handling involves various risk factors such as handling heavy loads and operating various equipment and vehicles within airports, an on-site occupational health and safety management system is more important than anything," adding, "Based on this certification, we will provide a safer operating environment that will reassure our client companies and passengers."
