Hyundai Steel said on the 17th that it is accelerating the smartization of processes by introducing robots into the inspection and packaging stages for wire rod (steel products wound into coils).
The introduction of robots began in the small bar rolling mill at the Dangjin special steel plant in Nov. They perform the task of attaching tags containing information such as product history and specifications to the wire rod coil shipping line.
An assembly robot assembles a clip onto the printed product tag and, when the wire rod moving along the conveyor is placed on a fixture, a tagging robot scans the wire rod and attaches the tag.
The introduction of robots came after verifying efficiency and safety through collaboration since 2023 with BM Group Polytec, an Italian automation specialist for steel product manufacturing.
A Hyundai Steel official said, "As robots have replaced the wire rod tagging work that had relied on workers' hands, work efficiency has improved," adding, "We will continue to expand investments related to robots."
