Doosan will acquire SK Siltron, the world's No. 3 semiconductor wafer maker.
SK Inc. said on the 17th that it selected Doosan Co. as the preferred bidder for the sale of SK Siltron equity. SK Siltron is a semiconductor wafer specialist manufacturer. It ranks third in global market share for 12-inch wafers.
SK said, "Specifics will be decided through consultations with the preferred bidder," adding, "We will make another disclosure when related matters are finalized or within three months." The equity up for sale is the 70.6% stake in SK Siltron held by SK. The 29.4% stake held by SK Group Chair Chey Tae-won is said to be excluded.
SK Group has pursued the sale of SK Siltron as part of a business reorganization. Doosan Group is nurturing its semiconductor materials and equipment business, including by acquiring the semiconductor testing company DOOSAN TESNA and its subsidiary Engeon.
An SK official said, "It appears the final price will be set after due diligence and other steps."
