Doosan Enerbility will build a new plant dedicated to small modular reactors (SMRs).
Doosan Enerbility said on the 17th that its board approved new facility investments worth 806.8 billion won, including building an SMR-only plant at its Changwon plant in South Gyeongsang. The investment is planned to run for about five years from March next year through June 2031.
The investment will fund construction of the SMR-only plant, optimization of existing plants, and establishment of innovative manufacturing facilities. The company plans to build capacity to produce about 20 SMR units a year.
Doosan Enerbility is accelerating its participation in the U.S. SMR business, including signing a reservation contract on the 12th with U.S. SMR developer X-energy for forgings, a core material, for 16 SMRs. Doosan Enerbility is also collaborating with NuScale and TerraPower.
