Jeju Air's maintenance delay rate has improved significantly this year compared with last year.
According to Jeju Air on the 16th, the company's maintenance delay rate for January–November this year was 0.52%. It fell 0.37 percentage points (p) from the same period last year (0.89%), a drop of more than 40%.
The domestic maintenance delay rate fell from 1.11% to 0.61%, and the international maintenance delay rate fell from 0.65% to 0.44%, down 0.5%p and 0.21%p, respectively. In particular, in November, the monthly maintenance delay rate was 0.22%, the lowest level this year.
The maintenance delay rate indicates the proportion of delays caused by aircraft maintenance issues and is used as a key indicator to assess an airline's safety and on-time performance.
On-time performance also improved sharply. During the same period, Jeju Air's on-time performance was 77.2%, up 6.4 percentage points from 70.8% in the same period last year. The domestic on-time performance rose 7.5 percentage points from 70.7% last year to 78.2%, and the international on-time performance rose 5.3 percentage points from 70.8% to 76.1%.
Jeju Air purchased two next-generation B737-8 aircraft in 2023 and completed the purchase of six B737-8s planned for this year.
Of the 43 passenger jets Jeju Air currently operates, next-generation aircraft account for 18.6%. Jeju Air plans to proceed without delay with its fleet modernization project next year, including introducing next-generation aircraft and returning aging aircraft, to reduce the average fleet age to five years or less by 2030.
The company also plans to continue efforts to improve on-time performance by strengthening planned and preventive maintenance work to reduce long delays and enhancing training to prevent human error.
