Hanwha Systems said on the 11th it signed a contract with Hyundai Rotem to supply the fire control system to be installed on K2 tanks exported to Poland. The contract is worth about 203.1 billion won, equivalent to 7.24% of Hanwha Systems' sales last year (consolidation basis).
The fire control system is a core suite that lets a tank detect, track, and fire on targets accurately and quickly, and is called the tank's "brain." It consists of seven pieces of equipment: the commander's sight, gunner's sight, fire control computer, laser warning device, driver's thermal periscope, displays (target and operations), and control panel.
The K2GF (gap-filler) tanks to be exported to Poland, split between 2023 and this year, are almost the same specification as the K2 tanks currently fielded by Korea. Gap-filler means filling a capability gap, and it was made for local use in Poland with minimal design changes from the model used by our Army. Hanwha Systems also handled the supply of the fire control system for the first export batch.
Key equipment including Hanwha Systems' fire control system is also scheduled to be installed on the K2 tanks (K2PL) to be developed as a Poland-customized version going forward.
