Kia said on the 9th that the PV5 Cargo model earned the top rating in the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) commercial van assessment.
The PV5 Cargo received positive marks for helping ensure safe driving and effectively preventing various collision situations through a range of advanced driver-assistance systems and safety features. Following the EV6 (2022), EV9 (2023) and EV3 (2025), the PV5 Cargo also received the top rating in the commercial van assessment, meaning both passenger and commercial electric vehicles evaluated by Euro NCAP achieved the highest grade.
The Euro NCAP light commercial vehicle test is a vehicle assessment program that began in 2021. It conducts safety verification tests for light commercial vehicle models sold in Europe. The assessment items for light commercial vehicles are ▲ driving safety ▲ crash prevention ▲ post-crash protection systems, and ratings are assigned based on the comprehensive evaluation results.
Euro NCAP noted that the PV5 Cargo is well equipped with a driver monitoring system and a seat belt reminder system, and supports safe driving through an intelligent speed limit assist function. It also said the forward collision-avoidance assist system's collision warnings and emergency braking control are effective, and that it helps prevent crashes by accurately detecting pedestrians and cyclists.
The PV5 is built on the PBV-dedicated electrification platform E-GMP.S. It enhances crash safety by applying a front multi-skeletal structure and secures excellent body rigidity and durability by applying ultra-high-strength steel and hot-stamped steel plates centered on the lower body where the high-voltage battery is mounted.
Along with airbags, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) are equipped, including ▲ forward collision-avoidance assist ▲ lane following assist 2 ▲ navigation-based smart cruise control ▲ highway driving assist ▲ steering wheel grip detection (HoD) ▲ driver attention warning ▲ front and rear parking distance warning.
Kim Sang-dae, executive vice president of Kia's PBV Business Division, said, "With the safety proven by the PV5 Cargo's top rating in the Euro NCAP commercial van assessment, we will bring innovation to the global light commercial vehicle market."
Meanwhile, the PV5 received the "2026 World Van of the Year," the most prestigious award in the commercial vehicle industry, in Nov. The PV5 passenger model was named family car of the year at the 2026 TopGear Awards, and the PV5 Cargo model was selected for van of the year and compact van of the year at the 2026 What Van? Awards.
