Nexen Tire said on the 9th that it disclosed tire development technology using artificial intelligence (AI) in the 2025 annual review of the British tire technology magazine "Tire Technology International."
Nexen Tire is incorporating AI into research and development to improve the efficiency of the product development process and enhance tire performance.
In this announcement, Nexen Tire focused on technology that can predict structure borne noise (SBN) and air borne noise (ABN), the main tire noises.
Researchers at Nexen Tire and Hyundai Motor developed a model using an artificial neural network (ANN) to predict noise generated according to tire pattern, structure, and size. This allows noise levels to be checked in the initial design stage and enables the design of optimized patterns and structures.
Nexen Tire also presented a recent case in which it applied AI technology to its virtual tire development process to improve development efficiency. In the past, numerous real tires had to be used and tested for vehicle dynamics simulations, but AI prediction technology now makes it possible to predict physical properties without real tires. This enables developers to efficiently evaluate products with various designs.
A Nexen Tire official said, "By incorporating AI technology into tire development, we are maximizing development efficiency and precision," adding, "We plan to continue introducing premium products that combine safety and performance through research and development using various digital technologies, including AI."
