Hyundai Mobis said on the 8th that it has established a software (SW) research outpost in Bengaluru, India.
Bengaluru in southwestern India is home to a software ecosystem of global information technology (IT) corporations, startups, and research institutes. Hyundai Mobis ultimately chose Bengaluru, which has an excellent software development environment, after reviewing additional sites in India as demand for research and development in software increased.
The company noted that it considered the fact that languages and cultures differ by region in India and that talent is cultivated differently depending on local industries, as well as that many local Indian client companies are clustered in Bengaluru.
Hyundai Mobis plans to use the Bengaluru outpost as a specialized base for infotainment software. India's auto market is shifting from small cars to mid- to large-sized models. As installations of high value-added electronic components such as advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) increase, demand for the necessary software has also surged.
The existing integrated Hyderabad base will operate as the local research and development headquarters. It will handle software strategy, collaboration with global labs, and application development. The Bengaluru outpost will be responsible for areas closely connected to hardware, such as frameworks that undergird software function implementation.
A Hyundai Mobis official said, "As the scope of software development using the two bases expands, we have laid the groundwork for platform development that meets the requirements of local global clients," adding, "By 2028, we aim to increase order value for Indian clients to about six times this year's level."
