Korea Line Corporation and KLCSM, shipping affiliates of SM Group's institutional sector, said on the 8th that they conducted a joint ship safety inspection led by their chief executive officers.
The joint inspection was carried out on the 5th at the raw materials pier of POSCO's Gwangyang steelworks in Gwangyang, South Jeolla Province. Korea Line Corporation CEO Lee Dong-su, KLCSM CEO Kwon O-gil, and 10 officials from each company took part.
The inspection was conducted on Korea Line Corporation's 208,000 DWT (deadweight tonnage) bulk carrier K.ASTER.
The inspection that day was carried out to strengthen capabilities in safety and health and to advance the emergency response system in preparation for industrial accidents. KLCSM, which is responsible for maintenance of the group's vessels to prevent accidents, also participated.
Officials from each company toured the deck, engine room, bridge, and living quarters, checking across the board for major causes of maritime accidents such as collisions, falls, fires, and asphyxiation.
In the latter part, a meeting was also arranged to encourage the crew for their hard work and to hear their opinions for reflection in on-site operations.
CEO Lee Dong-su said, "We will spare no support for safety to achieve accident-free operations for all vessels." K.ASTER Captain Kim Il-yong said, "We will continue zero accidents by encouraging thorough compliance with safety rules."
