Hyundai Mobis said on the 8th that it has established a software-focused research branch in Bengaluru, India, the country's IT hub. Together with the integrated research center in Hyderabad it set up earlier this year, it will operate the region as a software-focused research branch and pursue a policy of dual-track research and development that reflects local characteristics.
Bengaluru, located in southwestern India, is the representative administrative city of the state of Karnataka and a place where a software ecosystem has been created with global IT companies, startups and research institutions. Hyundai Mobis is reported to have ultimately selected Bengaluru, which has an excellent software development environment, after reviewing additional bases across India as demand for software research and development increased.
Hyundai Mobis said establishing a specialized research base that considers regional characteristics is also aimed at securing top talent. Languages and cultures vary by region in India, and the output of talent is greatly influenced by the industries in each area. Global automakers and parts makers are also tending to operate branches in major Indian cities.
Hyundai Mobis also considered that many local Indian customers are concentrated in Bengaluru. By operating a branch, it expects to enhance global order competitiveness by establishing a system to respond quickly to requests from local customers.
Hyundai Mobis plans to use the Bengaluru branch as a specialized hub for infotainment software. The Indian car market is currently shifting from small cars to mid- and large-size models. As the installation of high value-added electronic components such as advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) increases, the demand for software talent required for these has also grown significantly.
With the establishment of the branch, Hyundai Mobis's local research and development strategy has also become more flexible. The existing integrated base in Hyderabad will operate as the local research and development headquarters and handle software strategy planning, collaboration with global research centers and application development. The Bengaluru branch will be responsible for areas closely linked to hardware, such as the frameworks that form the basis for software function implementation. As the scope of software development expands using the two bases, it has laid the groundwork for developing platforms that meet the requirements of local global customers.
Hyundai Mobis operates major bases such as plants and research centers across India to strengthen global competitiveness. It produces modules and key parts at two production bases in Chennai and Anantapur, and the parts base in Gurugram is responsible for stable A/S parts supply. Together with the newly established Bengaluru branch, the integrated research base in Hyderabad will lead software-centered research and development, and it operates a purchasing center in Delhi and a quality center in Chennai.
Meanwhile, Hyundai Mobis is working to diversify ordered items from local global customers in India while expanding orders. It has set an aggressive target to increase order amounts from Indian customers by about sixfold by 2028 compared with 2025.
