Kolon Industries said on the 4th that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Ballard Power Systems, a Canadian Hydrogen Fuel Cell corporations, at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, to cooperate on the hydrogen business.
Ballard is a fuel cell corporations founded in 1979. It has world-class, high-efficiency and high-durability fuel cell technology and, based on that, provides clean hydrogen energy solutions for a range of areas including mobile (buses, trucks, trains, ships) power generation, stationary power generation, and backup power.
Kolon Industries has been supplying moisture control devices for fuel cells to Ballard since 2018.
Through this MOU, the two companies agreed to establish a stable supply system for moisture control devices, a key component of fuel cell systems, and to expand cooperation for product development and performance improvement going forward.
Heo Seong, president of Kolon Industries, said, "This MOU is an important milestone for strengthening the strategic partnership between the two companies," and added, "Kolon Industries will continue efforts to expand the hydrogen market."
Kolon Industries has expanded its Hydrogen Fuel Cell business based on membrane design and manufacturing technology accumulated over more than 30 years and research into separator membrane technology for Hydrogen Fuel Cells.
On the 2013, it became the first in the world to establish mass production for moisture control devices and has maintained the No. 1 global market share. In addition, in early 2021, it became the first in Korea to install mass production facilities and is producing and selling the core of Hydrogen Fuel Cells, "proton exchange membrane (PEM)."
