Tesla ranked No. 1 in sales in the imported car market in November.
The Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA) said on the 3rd that the number of newly registered imported passenger cars last month totaled 29,357, up 23.4% from the same month a year earlier.
Tesla sold 7,632 units, outpacing BMW (6,526) and Mercedes-Benz (6,139). Tesla had held the top spot for three consecutive months from July to September, slipped behind BMW in October, and reclaimed it in just a month.
Behind BMW and Benz were Volvo (1,459), BYD (1,164), and Lexus (1,039) in that order. No. 5 BYD continued its rise after placing seventh in September (1,020) and sixth in October (824).
By model, the Tesla Model Y topped the best-seller list with 6,180 units. It was followed by the Benz E-Class (2,790), BMW 5 Series (1,853), and Tesla Model 3 (1,412).
By fuel type, hybrids led with 15,064 units, accounting for 51.3% of total sales. They were followed by electric at 10,757 (36.6%), gasoline at 3,210 (10.9%), and diesel at 326 (1.1%).
