Hanwha Aerospace (Hanwha Aero) said on the 1st it will begin delivering K9 self-propelled howitzer packages to Egypt starting in the first quarter of next year. Hanwha Aero also took part in Egypt's defense industry exhibition to showcase the Chunmoo multiple launch rocket system and the long-range surface-to-air guided weapon L-SAM as it moved to expand its market presence.
Hanwha Aero participated in Egypt Defense Expo (EDEX) 2025, which runs in Cairo, Egypt, from today through the 4th. EDEX is a large-scale exhibition that draws more than 450 defense companies and about 40,000 visitors.
At this EDEX, Hanwha Aero set up a booth and placed actual guided missiles for Chunmoo at the center. It showcased the Chunmoo 2.0 anti-ship guided missile that strikes maneuvering vessels and three types of Chunmoo guided missiles with maximum ranges of 80–290 km.
Hanwha Aero also displayed a model of the K9 self-propelled howitzer package. Alongside ballistic-correction fuzes and precision-guided shells that improve the accuracy of 155 mm rounds, it unveiled the K11 armored fire-direction vehicle equipped with an electro-optical device that tracks enemy vessels' movements.
The K9 self-propelled howitzer package will be deployed by the Egyptian Navy for coastal defense and deliveries will begin in the first quarter of next year. Hanwha Aero will equip the package with a Korea-made 1,000-horsepower engine, procure parts domestically, and then assemble and produce it in Egypt.
In addition, Hanwha Aero showcased domestic air-defense assets including 40 mm unmanned air-defense systems led by L-SAM, a short-range drone launcher, and Cheongeom upgraded into a surface-to-surface guided weapon.
Seong Il, head of Hanwha Aerospace's Middle East and Africa regional corporation, said, "We will actively enter the Middle East and Africa markets with integrated security solutions that include the proven K9 and Chunmoo in the global defense market."
