Hanwha Ocean signed an order contract worth about 1 trillion won with HMM, Korea's largest container shipping company.
Hanwha Ocean said on the 28th that it won an order from HMM for four 13,000-TEU container ships (1 TEU is one 20-foot container). The total contract value is 1.07 trillion won.
HMM is continuing large-scale orders with domestic shipbuilders under its mid- to long-term eco-friendly fleet expansion strategy targeting 2030. Recently, it also ordered eight 13,400-TEU container ships from HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, the intermediate shipbuilding holding company of HD Hyundai. The contract amount comes to 2.13 trillion won.
Including this contract, Hanwha Ocean has booked orders totaling 41 vessels—17 very large crude carriers (VLCCs), 17 container ships, six liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, and one icebreaking research vessel—amounting to $7.7 billion.
