CJ Logistics said on the 26th it was selected as a "national disaster management logistics corporation" designated by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS).
The national disaster management logistics corporations system was created as the types of disasters diversify and their intensity increases, heightening the need for the government to cooperate with private logistics corporations.
It was created based on the Act on the Management of Disaster Management Resources, which took effect in Jan. last year, and aims to systematically manage disaster management resources and meet nationwide goods movement demand.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) announced an open call in Jul. for new designations of national disaster management logistics corporations and, after first- and second-round evaluations, selected four companies, including CJ Logistics, LOTTE Global Logistics, Hanjin, and BGF Logis.
CJ Logistics met qualification requirements such as operating smart logistics centers, possessing a nationwide logistics network and comprehensive logistics service capabilities, the level of logistics informatization, and the safety of performing disaster management logistics missions.
In particular, it was selected with high marks for its experience cooperating in various disaster response situations, including operating integrated management centers for disaster management resources at the city and provincial levels.
Going forward, CJ Logistics will manage logistics for the integrated management center for disaster management resources and, in the event of a disaster, transport response supplies from suppliers to regional stockpile warehouses, forward bases, and disaster sites.
It will also link the integrated management system for disaster management resources with the corporations' own logistics management information systems to share logistics information in real time and participate in government-led drills to strengthen disaster response capabilities.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) held a "designation plaque presentation ceremony" at Government Complex Seoul that day to mark the selection of the national disaster management logistics corporations. The event was attended by Minister Yoon Ho-jung and Choi Gap-joo, head of the Delivery Group at CJ Logistics, along with other officials.
Group head Choi Gap-joo said, "The more we face disaster situations, the more important it is that logistics do not stop," and added, "We will prepare to ensure necessary support reaches quickly and reliably, and we will make sure disaster logistics work proceeds without disruption during crises."
