The boiling magma began to erupt. The magma that had been growling underground finally became crimson lava and flowed over the mountain ridge.
Genesis unveiled the world-first 'GV60 Magma,' which opens a new decade of 'Luxury High Performance.' With this car, Genesis will also enter the world of high performance beyond luxury.
To embody this symbolic meaning, the world premiere event was held at the Paul Ricard circuit in Le Castellet, a town in southern France.
On the 20th local time, media representatives invited from around the world focused their attention on the appearance of GV60 Magma (GV60 Magma). The GV60 Magma was born this year, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the Genesis brand, and also carried a meaning of blessing Genesis's new decade.
The GV60 Magma is the first production model developed based on the 'GV60 Magma concept' that Genesis introduced last year when it officially announced its entry into the high-performance sector.
Based on a low and wide body, it was designed to emphasize Magma's identity with Magma-exclusive color and three-hole design, and it delivers the best power performance among Genesis production electrified models with a maximum torque of 790Nm, 0-200km/h in 10.9 seconds, and a top speed of 264kph. It also features various Magma-exclusive specialized functions and a dedicated virtual sound system and interface.
In addition, Genesis also revealed the Magma GT Concept, which showcases the pinnacle of 'luxury high performance.' The Magma GT Concept is a new sports car typology that previews the performance heritage Genesis will build over the next 10 years, a halo concept that combines refined luxury with motorsports spirit.
Hyundai Motor CEO José Muñoz said Genesis achieved global sales of 1 million units faster than any luxury brand, adding that Magma is a symbol that declares Genesis's next decade will be even more important, and that it will combine Korea's innovation and global vision to set a new standard for a luxury performance brand.
The design of the GV60 Magma focused on expressing the presence of invisible force rather than ostentatious or radical forms.
The front of the exterior broadened the width and lowered the body height compared with the existing GV60 to achieve a low and wide stance. The bumper, newly designed in a three-hole (Three-Hole) form, a Magma-exclusive design element, reveals the Magma model's identity while assisting airflow and cooling performance. At the same time, black high-gloss molding, dark metal colored parts, and simple canard wings were applied to emphasize a high-performance image centered on neutral tones.
The side also lowered the overall height by 20mm compared with the existing GV60 and emphasized low and wide proportions by applying wide fenders and 275mm wide tires. The side skirt features the same three-hole detail as the front and connects naturally to the air breather line to guide airflow. Exterior moldings including the window frame are finished in glossy black to minimize the use of chrome.
The most notable feature at the rear is the wing-type rear spoiler connected to the roofline, which forms sufficient downforce to reduce lift and contribute to driving stability. In addition, the new rear bumper and side skirt design and lettering are finished in black to complete a unified design.
The interior reflects both premium materials and a sporty sensibility at the same time.
Suede-like shammy materials were used in key areas such as the seats, door trims, and center console, and depending on the interior color, orange and gray stitching, quilting, and seat belts were applied to express Magma's unique identity. Buttons, switches, and emblems are finished in black high-gloss or dark metal materials to reduce reflected light and create a calm atmosphere. The steering wheel also applies Magma-exclusive elements such as a circular rim (the part you hold), a black emblem, an orange drive mode button, and a black boost mode button to achieve differentiation.
▲Precise control of powerful output
The GV60 Magma delivers the highest level of power performance among Genesis production electrified models, with a combined front and rear motor peak output of 448kW (609 horsepower) and maximum torque of 740Nm. In boost mode it rises to 478kW (650 horsepower) and 790Nm, and the top speed is 264km/h.
In particular, the rear motor extends the maximum output maintenance range so that performance remains stable even during high-power driving, and boost mode can increase output and torque for about 15 seconds to maximize acceleration response. As a result, the GV60 Magma can reach 200km/h from a standstill in 10.9 seconds when using launch control.
The GV60 Magma did not sacrifice handling stability, driving control completeness, or ride comfort despite its powerful output.
The roll center position was set optimally to optimize suspension geometry, and an integrated advanced electronically controlled suspension (ECS) and an End-of-Travel (EoT) control system were applied to secure cornering stability and a comfortable ride simultaneously. Hydro G bushings are used on the front, and dual-layer bushings are used on the rear crossmember to reduce vibration and shock, and braking performance was enhanced through front monoblock calipers, large-diameter discs, and GG high-friction material rear brake pads.
The GV60 Magma also features the group's first electrically powered Magma-exclusive 10-way power bucket seat. It provides functions such as ventilation, memory, and cushion extension to offer the driver comfort and support.
The GV60 Magma is equipped with 21-inch wheels and wide summer tires developed exclusively for the model, and it also comes standard with ANC-R (Active Noise Control-Road) to control noise transmitted from the road into the cabin. Measures to improve wind noise at high speed, such as a windshield, front and rear door glass soundproof film, and reinforced door sealing, strengthen NVH (noise·vibration·harshness) performance and enhance quietness.
The GV60 Magma is equipped with various Magma-exclusive specialized functions to provide a differentiated driving experience.
Drivers can enter three Magma-exclusive drive modes—Sprint (SPRINT), GT (GT), and My (MY)—by pressing the orange button on the steering wheel.
When entering Sprint mode, all driving areas except those related to body motion control are set to their maximum values so drivers can experience the vehicle's maximum performance. GT mode ensures balanced power performance and energy efficiency in high-speed cruising environments, and in My mode drivers can individually set features such as the electronic limited-slip differential (e-LSD), electronically controlled suspension (ECS), and electronic stability control (ESC) according to their preferences.
The GV60 Magma is also equipped with boost mode and launch control, functions that maximize the advantages of a high-performance vehicle. Boost mode raises the vehicle's output and torque for up to 15 seconds, allowing the vehicle to maintain power continuously even in high-speed ranges beyond simple initial acceleration. Launch control secures maximum torque in advance when the car starts, reducing the time it takes for power to rise and enabling rapid start response for instantaneous strong acceleration.
In addition, the GV60 Magma is equipped with HPBC (High-Performance Battery Control), which optimizes battery temperature and motor output according to driving purpose, and a virtual gearshift system (VGS) that controls output, torque, and regenerative braking to provide a shift feel and driving sensation similar to a high-performance internal combustion engine vehicle.
Genesis Magma's dedicated digital interface, sound, and driving feedback to enhance driver immersion are also features unique to the GV60 Magma.
When the Magma-exclusive drive mode is activated, the GV60 Magma adopts a 3-circle cluster that, based on a Magma-exclusive app, displays driving-related data for each drive mode—motor and battery temperature, speed, lateral acceleration (G-force), and more—in an optimized format. The head-up display (HUD) also succinctly presents key information such as speed, regenerative braking stage, boost mode remaining status and time.
The GV60 Magma also features a specially developed dedicated virtual sound system. When the electric vehicle active sound design (e-ASD+) is activated during driving, occupants can experience an electric sound that captures Magma's driving sensibility, and when combined with the virtual gearshift system (VGS), a deep sound inspired by a high-performance six-cylinder engine provides rich immersion. The Magma-exclusive page of the AVN (navigation system) intuitively shows various driving-related functions and information, including VGS, HPBC, a performance timer, and throttle opening.
The GV60 Magma is scheduled to be launched sequentially in global markets such as Europe and North America, starting in Korea in January next year. In Korea, the GV60 Magma can be viewed in person at Genesis Suji from Dec. 10.
