POSCO (POSCO Holdings) Group said on the 18th that it will hold its in-house technology festival, the POSCO Group Tech Forum (Tech Forum). The POSCO Group Tech Forum is an event where group companies share key technology development achievements and discuss future directions.
This Tech Forum marks the 37th edition since it was first held in 1989. It will take place for two days from the day at Pohang University of Science and Technology in Pohang, North Gyeongsang, and about 1,300 executives and employees in technology, along with company heads of major business units including POSCO Group Chairman Chang In-hwa, attended the opening ceremony.
In the opening address, Chang said, "The most important means to break through an uncertain business environment is technological innovation," adding, "Let's push ultra-gap large-scale projects in a one-team format that involves both the field and the research lab to speed up technology development and complete the group's future competitiveness with innovative technologies."
Chang also noted, "Securing resources in the steel and secondary battery materials businesses cannot be overemphasized," and mentioned the importance of continuous surveys of global resources and the development of innovative technologies. Chang added, "Let's strengthen every employee's AI utilization capabilities and achieve AI-centered digital innovation at every site."
The event also included an awards ceremony for the "POSCO Technology Awards." The top Technology Award, the Innovation of the Year, went to the Steelmaking Department at the Pohang Steelworks and to the cathode materials research center at POSCO FUTURE M for "autonomous operation technology across all steelmaking processes" and "mass-production technology for a continuous cyclic concentration process for precursors," respectively.
In addition, POSCO Group will run 25 tech sessions over two days. The tech sessions bring together internal and external experts to share excellent technology development achievements, and this year they will focus on robotics technology and critical minerals technology development.
