Seonjin RCS is a Start - Up specializing in climbing systems for exterior wall construction of buildings. Chief Executive Gu Jeong-mo founded it in 2019. Gu worked in the supertall climbing system industry for about 13 years and entered the business after spotting a niche market.
Gu targeted the mid- to high-rise construction market for buildings between 20 and 40 stories, where conventional methods are often used because using climbing systems entails high expense. At domestic construction sites, buildings over 40 stories use climbing systems for safety reasons when being built. For 20 stories and below, conventional methods are used, such as installing temporary structures to allow construction.
Gu said, "We expanded the application of climbing systems to 20–40-story mid- to high-rise buildings by implementing the exterior wall climbing system for buildings, which had been limited to supertalls of more than 40 stories, with a structure simplified compared with existing ones."
Seonjin RCS's climbing system raises rails installed on a building's exterior wall using a hydraulic method, enabling safe and efficient construction. By improving the heavy and large structural limitations of existing supertall systems for 40 stories and above, it can also be used in mid- to high-rise buildings of 40 stories and below. Seonjin RCS's climbing system has been applied to construction sites of 40 stories and below at Hyundai E&C, POSCO, and GS Engineering and Construction.
Gu said, "Supertall systems must withstand wind and the like, so they require a lot of raw materials such as steel, but we manufacture the structures to fit 20–40 stories, reducing expense while securing stability." Gu also emphasized, "We achieve performance in mid- to high-rises that approaches supertalls while cutting expense by 50%."
Gu plans to drive the company's full-fledged growth starting this year. The idea is to increase volume while winning recognition for technology by supplying systems to large corporations. Gu said, "As a partner of major builders, we can now bid directly at construction sites," adding, "In particular, we were selected as a superior technology partner of Hyundai E&C."
Seonjin RCS posted 1.8 billion won in revenue last year and projects 2 billion won this year. In particular, it plans to accelerate its push into overseas markets in 2027 to achieve 15 billion won in revenue.
Gu said, "We plan to enter overseas markets together with domestic builders," adding, "Korea's market for climbing systems for exterior wall construction of mid- to high-rise buildings is about 400 billion won per year, and the global market reaches $5 billion (about 7.1 trillion won) a year."
Gu also expressed an ambition to grow into a solutions corporations covering all aspects of construction execution. Gu said, "We will grow into a company that provides specialized construction systems for the entire building, including not only the exterior but also the interior and underground." Seonjin RCS has attracted a cumulative 860 million won in investment.
