It produces a staggering 1,050 horsepower.
Ferrari unveiled the 849 Testarossa, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) super sports car and the most powerful production model in the brand's history, for the first time in Korea.
Ferrari held a Korea premiere event at the Banyan Tree Club & Spa Seoul on the 14th and introduced the 849 Testarossa, a new flagship model that follows the SF90 Stradale. The 849 Testarossa, which concentrates Ferrari's latest technology, unlike the "sports car" that balances performance and everyday comfort, is a "pilot car" for drivers who challenge performance limits and test a vehicle's extremes at every moment, and it occupies the pinnacle of Ferrari's lineup.
The model name Testarossa comes from the red cam cover of the legendary 500 TR racing car of the 1950s and signifies the most powerful and iconic engines in Ferrari's history. Later in 1984, this name was officially adopted for the Testarossa, which became a design icon of its time and one of the most famous road cars. The 849 Testarossa inherits this legendary name and showcases the essence of Ferrari's racing DNA and engineering.
At the heart of the 849 Testarossa is its powerful powertrain. The 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo engine has been completely redesigned to produce 830 horsepower (cv), and three electric motors add up to a total explosive output of 1,050 horsepower (cv). This is 50 horsepower more than the SF90 Stradale. Notably, despite significant weight reduction efforts that greatly improved performance, it maintains the same weight as the previous SF90 Stradale, achieving Ferrari production car history's best power-to-weight ratio (1.5 kg/cv). It accelerates from a standstill to 62 mph in just 2.3 seconds.
Aerodynamic performance was also greatly enhanced to support the powerful performance. The design, inspired by 1970s sports prototypes, generates 415 kg of downforce at 155 mph, which is 25 kg more than the SF90 Stradale. In particular, the rear active spoiler and fixed twin-tail structure increase both aerodynamic function and visual completeness.
Vehicle control systems have also advanced. The "FIVE (Ferrari Integrated Vehicle Estimator)" system, introduced by Ferrari for the first time, predicts the vehicle's movements in real time to optimize traction control and braking systems. In addition, the new large brake system with brake-by-wire technology ensures more precise and consistent braking performance in all driving situations.
The interior maximizes immersion with a driver-focused design. The driver can intuitively control the vehicle through a digital instrument cluster and the new HMI (Human Machine Interface), and the passenger can also check driving information together via a dedicated display and immerse themselves in the driving experience.
Francesco Bianchi, Ferrari head of Greater China and the Middle East, said 849 Testarossa is a masterpiece that redefines the brand's essence in the boldest way Ferrari can, and added that he is pleased to introduce this monumental model to Korean customers who deeply understand the ultimate values Ferrari pursues.
To commemorate the Korea premiere, Ferrari will host a private view of the Ferrari 849 Testarossa for existing and potential customers at the Ferrari Banpo showroom from Nov. 15 to Nov. 23.
