HD Hyundai will elevate its dedicated AI organization, which oversees group AI technology development, to report directly to the CEO to strengthen its edge in breakthrough technologies.
HD Hyundai said on the 14th that it recently carried out a reorganization to integrate the AI Center, which had been an institutional sector-level unit under the Future Technology Research Institute of HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, with the DT Innovation Office and elevate it to a headquarters-level organization called "AIX Promotion Office." The move is seen as a strategy to strengthen artificial intelligence (AI) technology development.
The AIX Promotion Office will operate as an independent body reporting directly to the CEO, with President Kim Hyung-kwan overseeing it. HD Hyundai said the measure aims to secure the group's leading edge in AI by enabling swift decision-making and bold budget execution as the chief executive officer personally oversees the full scope of AI technology development.
The AIX Promotion Office will serve as a control tower to integrate and coordinate differing levels and details of AI technologies across the group's businesses. In particular, it is expected to derive ship design models that optimize vessel efficiency in the ship design field and reduce repetitive simple tasks that occur during the design process.
Until now, the group has concentrated R&D capabilities on building the Future of Shipyard (FOS), advancing AI navigation solutions, commercializing unmanned construction equipment, and developing physical AI robot technology. However, HD Hyundai said that, because the required AI technology levels and details differ by business, the need has grown for an organization to manage them in an integrated manner.
An HD Hyundai official said, "AI is a core technology that is changing the foundation of future manufacturing and a game changer that has already begun to dominate corporations' overall management," adding, "We will continue to evolve to build the technological capabilities to lead this trend."
