Ryu Byung-hoon, born in 1980 and head of future strategy (executive vice president) at SK hynix, has been appointed chief secretary to Chey Tae-won, chairman of SK Group.
According to the business community on the 7th, SK Group recently named Ryu as the new chief secretary as a follow-up to its latest executive reshuffle. Ryu, the new chief secretary, is known as a hands-on talent who has worked across the group's core strategy lines.
The appointment came as former SK Group chief secretary Kim Jeong-gyu moved to become president of SK Square. Kim, the former chief secretary, was born in 1976.
The personnel move is being interpreted as Chairman Chey calling for organizational innovation and a generational shift. Ryu, the new chief secretary, is 20 years younger than Chairman Chey, who was born in 1960. It is seen as an attempt to emphasize rapid change and smooth communication.
