GM Korea said on the 7th that, in line with its plan to sell company-operated service centers, it will shift to a partner service center–focused system starting next year.
According to the auto industry and others that day, GM Korea will stop accepting repair services and other requests at nine company-operated service centers nationwide starting Jan. 1 and will end operations on Feb. 15. Instead, it plans to continue providing customer services centered on about 380 partner service centers nationwide. GM Korea plans to reassign employees who worked at the company-operated service centers to other roles at GM Korea.
This decision to end company-operated service centers follows the sale plan announced in May. At the time, GM Korea proposed selling the company-operated service centers and some facilities at the Bupyeong plant in Incheon as a measure to secure financial sustainability amid a rapidly changing global business environment.
In response, the labor union strongly opposed the management's plan, including launching a partial strike during wage negotiations.
