Kim Seung-youn, chairman of Hanwha Group, gave congratulatory gifts to Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) Hanwha Eagles team officials for finishing runner-up in the Korean Series.
According to Hanwha Group on the 5th, the previous day the chairman said, "I sincerely congratulate you on finishing runner-up in the Korean Series, and I send a big round of applause for the passion of the squad that gave its all to the end," and presented orange-colored mobile phones, the symbol of the Hanwha Eagles, to a total of 60 people, including the players and staff. The model is known to be the "iPhone 17."
The Hanwha Eagles finished second in the regular season this year and advanced to the postseason for the first time in seven years. They also reached the Korean Series stage for the first time in 19 years. The chairman encouraged the team, saying, "The sweat shed on the way to finishing runner-up will be a solid stepping stone to tomorrow's championship," and "I look forward to an even higher ascent by the Hanwha Eagles going forward."
Team captain Chae Eun-seong of the Hanwha Eagles said, "Thanks to the affection and support the chairman has shown the squad, all the players were always able to immerse themselves in the games," and added, "Although we did not win the championship this year, the entire squad will prepare even more thoroughly and make another run at the title next season."
The chairman has given gifts to the team multiple times in the past as well. Last year, he gifted 50 units of LG Electronics' StanbyME, a portable smart TV, so analysis could be done anywhere. In May this year, he also delivered T-bone steaks to not only the first-team squad but also the Futures League squad and all staff, and AirPods Max to 80 first-team players and staff who travel frequently.
The chairman's "love of baseball" is well known. He personally visited the ballpark nine times last year and six times this year to cheer with fans, earning the nickname "romantic owner."
