Volvo Group Korea (Volvo Construction Equipment Korea), the global excavator manufacturer, held the launch ceremony for the second cohort of the university student volunteer group "Volvo New Home Builders" at the Korea Habitat for Humanity headquarters in Seoul on the 1st and is set to begin volunteer activities for housing-vulnerable groups in local communities in earnest.
The volunteers selected for the second cohort of "Volvo New Home Builders" pledged to support children and the elderly in their communities so they can live in safer and healthier housing environments and strengthened their resolve to take action.
This second cohort was selected through a two-week application period and three days of online interviews, with a total of 30 people chosen after comprehensively considering region, gender and area of application. Most applicants showed a strong willingness to participate because they could directly take part in improving housing conditions and design activity programs themselves.
The 30 selected members will be divided into six teams reflecting individual characteristics and interests. In particular, the Changwon area, where the Volvo Construction Equipment Korea production plant is located, was assigned the largest number of participants to operate diverse programs.
Starting with the launch ceremony, the second cohort, which began full activities, will participate in various programs such as construction volunteering, team activities and talent donation for about four months until Feb. next year. In particular, it is characterized by carrying out self-planned projects directly, including "construction volunteering" with Korea Habitat for Humanity. Volunteers will be supported to tour Volvo's Changwon plant, and outstanding participants will receive commendations and other awards.
"Volvo New Home Builders" is operated as part of the corporate social responsibility program "Volvo New Home Project," which Volvo Group Korea and Korea Habitat for Humanity jointly promote to improve the housing environment of housing-vulnerable groups.
Through the first cohort formed last year, Volvo Group Korea contributed to improving child housing welfare, and this year, marking the 25th anniversary of cooperation with Habitat, it has expanded support targets to include housing-vulnerable elderly people and is operating volunteer groups nationwide. Through this, it provides practical help to communities to alleviate housing instability and continues corporate social responsibility activities in which future generations participate directly.
Hong Seok-cheol, president of Volvo Group Korea, said, "Volvo Group Korea has worked with Korea Habitat for Humanity for the past 25 years to create safe and healthy housing environments in local communities," adding, "This launch ceremony for the second cohort of 'Volvo New Home Builders' is a meaningful starting point for future generations to share that intent and join in activities, and we will continue to create sustainable change together with the younger generation."
Volvo Group Korea and Korea Habitat for Humanity have continuously carried out various corporate social responsibility activities since 2001, including "Building Homes of Hope," "Volvo Village" and the "Volvo New Home Project." The cumulative donations to date amount to about 2.6 billion won, and about 1,000 employees and their families have voluntarily participated in the activities.
