Hyundai Motor Group will step up Artificial Intelligence (AI) cooperation with the world's largest semiconductor company Nvidia to drive innovation in Autonomous Driving, Smart Factory, and Robotics.
Hyundai Motor Group said on the 31st that, based on its existing partnership with Nvidia, the two will jointly invest about $3 billion (about 4.3 trillion won) in Korea to push innovation in "physical AI" technologies. The two sides also signed a related memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Science and ICT on the same day.
Physical AI is AI that not only operates in virtual environments but also collects data with hardware such as sensors in real-world settings like Autonomous Driving, Smart Factory, and Robotics, and makes decisions autonomously. It is also drawing attention as a technology that will lead innovation in manufacturing.
Through this cooperation, the two companies agreed to establish in Korea: ◇ Nvidia AI Technology Center (AI Technology Center) ◇ Hyundai Motor Group Physical AI Application Center (Physical AI Application Center) ◇ a data center.
Hyundai Motor Group plans to support every stage of innovation based on an AI factory that uses Nvidia's next-generation AI chip "Blackwell" graphics processing units (GPUs). An AI factory is a computing infrastructure designed to manage the AI lifecycle, including data collection, training, and refinement, and to generate value from data.
Chung Eui-sun, chair of Hyundai Motor Group, said, "Strengthening cooperation with Nvidia is a leap to lead the era of AI-based mobility and Smart Factory," adding, "Beyond developing advanced technologies, the two companies will jointly build Korea's AI ecosystem to accelerate innovation and will continue cooperation to foster talent and secure global AI leadership."
Jensen Huang, Nvidia founder and chief executive officer (CEO), added, "Together with Hyundai Motor Group, a central company in Korea's leading industries and one of the world's top mobility solution corporations, we will realize intelligent cars and factories and build the mobility industry that will grow to be worth trillions of dollars."
