Lee Hyung-hee (63), head of communications (president) at the SUPEX Council of SK Group, was promoted to vice chairman on the 30th. This is the first time in four years since 2021 that SK Group has promoted someone to vice chairman.
An SK official said, "Vice Chairman Lee is regarded as the 'brain of the group, an idea bank,' having gained extensive experience across telecommunications and media as well as the group," adding, "Drawing on abundant experience at member companies and the SUPEX Council, Lee will serve on the vice chairman group at SK Co."
Vice Chairman Lee, who worked at SK Group for 37 years, is considered an expert in telecommunications, media, and corporate strategy. While working for 30 years at his first posting, SK Telecom, he is credited with helping SK Telecom maintain its position as the No. 1 telecom operator in Korea.
In 2018, Lee moved to the SK SUPEX Council, where Lee worked to establish SK Group's standards for measuring social value. In 2022, Lee became chairperson of communications within the SUPEX Council and oversaw the group's public relations and public affairs.
Born in 1962, Vice Chairman Lee is from Andong, North Gyeongsang Province. Lee is an alumnus of Shinil High School and Korea University with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, and is one of the close aides Chey trusts. When SK Group acquired Hynix in 2011, Chey appointed Lee as head of the CR institutional sector at SK Telecom. Lee later played a major role, along with then-SK President Kwon Oh-yong, in dispelling negative perceptions about the Hynix acquisition.
