Samsung Heavy Industries said on the 29th that it unveiled its automation platform, "S-EDP (SHI-Engineering Data Platform)," and held an Auto2Vision event to announce plans for innovation in its work system.
The event took place that morning at Geoje Samsung Hotel in Geoje, South Gyeongsang, with more than 80 attendees, including global energy corporations such as Petronas and ENI, and representatives from the U.S. shipbuilding and offshore company Vigor Marine.
S-EDP, released by Samsung Heavy Industries that day, is characterized by enabling simultaneous internet-based access as digitized information is automatically stored and shared, making real-time internal and external collaboration and the automatic creation of drawings, documents, and calculation sheets possible.
Samsung Heavy Industries expects that, through S-EDP, it will convert document- and drawing-centered tasks to a data-based approach, secure consistency among data (1D), drawings and documents (2D), and 3D models, and significantly shorten design lead time.
Based on S-EDP, Samsung Heavy Industries plans to more than double the design automation rate by 2030 and, through this, build a digital transformation that connects data across all areas including design, procurement, and production, accelerating the shift to a smart office and Smart Factory.
Samsung Heavy Industries plans to apply S-EDP to all domestic and overseas business sites while also pursuing a commercialization strategy to sell it to overseas shipyards with which it has signed partnerships.
Choi Sung-an, vice chairman and CEO of Samsung Heavy Industries, said, "Samsung Heavy Industries' smart shipyard is a form in which the 3X—known as digital transformation (DX), AI transformation (AX), and Robotics transformation (RX)—are organically integrated," adding, "S-EDP will play a key role in the transition to a smart shipyard."
