SK Enmove is joining hands with LG Electronics and U.S. immersion cooling specialist GRC (Green Revolution Cooling) to develop immersion cooling solutions optimized for hyperscale AI data centers and to target the global market.
SK Enmove said on the 28th that on the 27th it signed a three-party memorandum of understanding (MOU) with LG Electronics and U.S. immersion cooling specialist corporations GRC at the LG Electronics chiller business site in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi, to jointly develop immersion cooling solutions for data centers and expand global business.
The three companies will pool their flagship technologies to jointly develop customized immersion cooling solutions optimized for AI (artificial intelligence) and hyperscale data centers and validate their performance in real data center environments.
SK Enmove will handle the immersion cooling fluid, LG Electronics the cooling system, and GRC the immersion cooling tanks. Through this, they plan to complete a "total package-type" solution that is difficult for a single corporation to provide.
The validation will take place at a test bed dedicated to AI data centers within the LG Electronics chiller business site.
Immersion cooling is a technology that cools by directly submerging heat-generating electronic devices, such as data center servers, in a special non-conductive cooling fluid.
SK Enmove made a strategic investment in GRC in 2022, becoming the first in Korea to enter the immersion cooling market. The same year, it also succeeded in developing immersion cooling fluid for data centers. In 2023, it was actually applied to an SK Telecom data center.
Nam Jae-in, head of SK Enmove's Green Growth Division, said, "The three companies, which have immersion cooling technology and experience in the cooling market, decided to effectively combine each company's strengths," and added, "We expect to further enhance our competitiveness in the global data center immersion cooling market."
