The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS) said on the 27th that it appointed Park Yong-sun, 51, director general for technology innovation policy, as the new Deputy Minister for small and medium enterprise policy.
New Deputy Minister Park is from North Chungcheong and graduated from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), receiving a master's degree in electrical engineering from Seoul National University. Having passed the 34th technical administration exam, Park entered public service in 2000 and, over 25 years working only at the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS), has handled the full range of small and medium enterprise policy as an expert.
At the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS), Deputy Minister Park served as head of venture investment, director general for startup policy, and director general for technology innovation policy, gaining experience in both policy design for small and medium enterprises, startups, and ventures and in budgeting and planning. Within the ministry, Park is called the "jack of all trades in SME policy."
The personnel move is seen as reflecting the resolve of Minister Han Seong-sook of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS) to push forward innovation-led growth policies in earnest, including AI-based manufacturing innovation, fostering corporations centered on deep tech, and establishing a fair market order.
While serving as director general for technology innovation policy, Deputy Minister Park advanced field-centered policies such as preparing measures to use and spread artificial intelligence among small and medium enterprises and to eradicate technology theft. The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS) said, "Park is the right person to reliably lead the state task of supporting small and medium enterprises' growth in new technologies and their global leap."
