People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok said on the 22nd that "if the yellow envelop bill takes effect, corporations will have to fight for survival against illegal strikes rather than invest in the future, so complementary legislation is essential."
At a roundtable held that day at the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises in Yeouido, Seoul, Jang said, calling it "the worst of bad laws that turns illegality into legality and responsibility into privilege."
He noted, "Our party has introduced the Fair Labor-Management Act, the core of which is a total ban on illegal occupation of business sites," adding, "We will ensure its passage in this regular session of the National Assembly to establish fair labor-management relations."
He went on to say, "Tariff negotiations with the United States have also put our corporations in a very difficult situation," explaining that "corporations and the public have borne the damage." He added, "We will provide support to ease the burden on small and medium-sized enterprises struggling in a challenging trade environment," and "our party took the lead in sponsoring a bill to add energy to the supplier price indexation system, and it passed the standing committee. We will work to ensure that small and medium-sized enterprises receive fair prices."
Jang said, "There is a saying that small and medium-sized enterprises are the '9988' of our economy, but recently it has changed to '9980.'" "9988" means that small and medium-sized enterprises account for 99% of all corporations and are responsible for 88% of employment.
He also said, "When small and medium-sized enterprises, the backbone of the economy, do well, people's livelihoods improve and our economy regains vitality," adding, "The People Power Party will take the lead in building the ladder of employment and growth."
