Hyundai Motor said on the 17th that it opened a "community-led plastic resource circulation facility" in Bekasi, Indonesia.
Hyundai Motor is taking active steps to address local environmental issues, following the establishment of a recycling center in 2022 in Bekasi, where its Indonesian production plant is located, and now the opening of a plastic resource circulation facility.
The newly built resource circulation facility will provide environmental education for local residents, produce goods, and carry out the collection, washing and crushing of waste plastic, as well as the production and sale of recycled raw materials.
A local residents' cooperative will take part in facility operations, and revenue will be reinvested in the resource circulation facility to secure operational stability.
Hyundai Motor, in collaboration with Good Neighbors, will oversee the formation of a local residents' cooperative, hiring, and operational training, and, together with local waste plastic raw material suppliers, will provide recycling education for local residents.
A Hyundai Motor official said, "It is meaningful in that we moved beyond simple waste collection to create a circular system by turning waste into raw materials," adding, "We will continue to work to improve environmental issues in the local community based on a variety of cooperative frameworks."
