HD Hyundai Electric said on the 14th that its low- and medium-voltage circuit breakers have obtained North America's representative safety certifications, "UL" and "cUL (Canada UL)."
UL certification is a safety and quality certification granted by UL, a leading U.S. safety certification body, after testing and evaluation. cUL is a safety certification that can be used in Canada. The certification is not legally mandatory, but it is often required during distribution and delivery in the North American market.
The HD Hyundai Electric low- and medium-voltage circuit breakers that received certification this time are four types: air circuit breakers (ACB), molded-case circuit breakers (MCCB), vacuum circuit breakers (VCB), and magnetic contactors (MC). These circuit breakers handle the distribution and supply of power at the stage where generated electricity is delivered to end users, and they block additional current inflow.
HD Hyundai Electric plans to complete construction of a new distribution equipment–dedicated plant in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, by the end of the year to expand its distribution equipment business, including low- and medium-voltage circuit breakers. After completion, annual production of low- and medium-voltage circuit breakers is expected to reach 13 million units, about double the current level.
An HD Hyundai Electric official said, "With this UL certification as a momentum, we plan to push for full-fledged market expansion in the distribution equipment sector, including low- and medium-voltage circuit breakers, as well as ultra-high-voltage transformers, which have long maintained the No. 1 market share in North America."
