Doosan Enerbility said on the 13th that it signed a contract to supply two 380-megawatt-class gas turbines to a U.S. big tech (large IT company). This is the first time a domestically produced gas turbine has been exported.
Doosan Enerbility succeeded in localizing large power-generation gas turbines in 2019 with Korea's industry-academia-research sector, becoming the fifth in the world to secure gas turbine technology. It proved performance by completing 15,000 hours of demonstration at the Gimpo combined heat and power plant. Including this contract, it has signed supply contracts for a total of eight gas turbines.
As the artificial intelligence (AI) industry develops and electricity demand at data centers grows, gas turbines are drawing attention. DTS (Doosan Turbomachinery Services), Doosan Enerbility's U.S.-based subsidiary specializing in gas turbine services, is also credited with contributing to this order. DTS will handle maintenance for the gas turbines supplied under this contract.
Son Seung-woo, head of the Power Service BG at Doosan Enerbility, said, "This contract is "a meaningful turning point" as the Republic of Korea moves from a gas turbine importing country to an exporting country," and added, "We will strictly keep quality and delivery schedules to repay customer trust and further expand into overseas markets, including the United States."
