Dongsung Chemical said on the 30th that it has completed an expansion of organic peroxide production facilities at its Yeosu plant in South Jeolla Province and has begun operations. With this expansion, Dongsung Chemical has secured additional annual capacity of more than 4,000 tons of organic peroxides.
Dongsung Chemical plans to diversify its product portfolio based on its organic peroxide production capabilities. It also plans to pioneer a new high value-added polymer market by developing peroxides linked to the acid-based process. The company is also promoting localization of powder-type products that had relied on imports.
In 2023, Dongsung Chemical decided to scale down its existing petrochemical institutional sector and invest in the high-growth fine chemicals institutional sector. Accordingly, it dismantled more than 70% of the petrochemical facilities at the Yeosu plant and invested 18 billion won to carry out an expansion of organic peroxide production facilities.
Organic peroxides are key materials used as initiators and crosslinking agents for polymers such as LDPE (low-density polyethylene), PVC (polyvinyl chloride), and EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate). They are widely used in high value-added industries including solar power, automobiles, and wire and cable insulation.
Chief Executive Lee Man-woo of Dongsung Chemical said, "We will grow the fine chemicals business into an eco-friendly, high value-added business and further solidify our foothold in the global market beyond Korea."
