"It takes about two weeks for existing artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze a 300MB video, but we compress it to 2MB and can analyze it in one to two days."
When asked to introduce the core of the service, the young founder answered with confidence. BigTablet is using video compression technology as its core to pursue efficiency across various industries such as trade shows, exhibitions, and retail stores.
BigTablet CEO Mun Ji-ho began working life in real estate sales after leaving high school. In the field, analyzing customer behavior and preferences, he first became interested in the area of "customer analysis." He also started a company early to develop an online customer analysis solution. He later enrolled in the School of Computer Science at Kyungpook National University and studied.
BigTablet provides a CCTV video monitoring service using neural network-based video compression technology and a marketing solution through video analysis within commercial facilities. Neural network-based video compression is a technology in which AI learns only the key information in a video to reduce its size and speed up analysis.
Mun focused on the inefficiency of existing video AI solutions. He said, "Existing systems analyze high-definition videos over 300MB as they are, but we reduce them to 2–3MB with AI compression technology and can shorten analysis to one or two days," adding, "This has made it possible to optimize trade show traffic flow layouts and store layouts, which was previously impossible."
BigTablet received a transfer of the original technology from Kyungpook National University last year and began full-scale business development. Through AI video analysis, it analyzes in real time factors such as visitor interest levels, store customer movement paths, and behavior patterns by gender and age.
It can propose operational efficiency and marketing strategies across various industries, including distribution and smart factories. Anywhere that wants customers to stay longer—such as trade shows and department stores—is a potential client for BigTablet.
It has secured a Daegu-based restaurant franchise as a major client. Although it only began in earnest last year, it posted sales of 680 million won.
Mun said, "The core technology, video compression, was developed at the School of Computer Science at Kyungpook National University." He continued, "If existing video AI analyzed every color in detail, we compress by leaving only the key information AI needs," explaining, "Thanks to that, even high-definition videos can be analyzed with little data, and learning expenses can be drastically reduced."
BigTablet also set a goal to provide a solution that secures high-quality data in the computer vision industry while improving expense efficiency. Mun said, "We will grow it into a solution that can be implemented in real industries, not just technology development," adding, "By lowering AI model development expenses, I want to help create an environment where startups can easily take on various businesses."
