The Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency (KOSME) said on the 23rd that they held a launch ceremony for the "Gyeongnam next-generation advanced satellite global innovation special zone" at the Asia Lakeside Hotel in Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province.
"The "global innovation special zone" is a Korea-style innovation cluster that temporarily eases regulations so that corporations can carry out demonstrations and certifications needed for overseas market entry in line with global standards.
South Gyeongsang Province was newly designated in May this year as a global special zone in the next-generation advanced satellite field. The Gyeongnam advanced satellite special zone will receive broad government support over the next four years, including ▲ overseas demonstration and certification operations ▲ overseas joint demonstration research and development ▲ subscription to liability insurance for new-industry demonstrations ▲ global networking.
The launch ceremony was organized to commemorate the full-fledged start of the project. About 80 people attended, including KOSME Chairperson Kang Seok-jin; South Gyeongsang Province Vice Gov. for Economic Affairs Kim Myeong-ju; Gyeongsang National University President Kwon Jin-hoe; and Lee's Park CEO Kim Gap-san, along with executives and employees from corporations participating in the special zone.
The event featured the signing of a business agreement between KOSME and South Gyeongsang Province for the global innovation special zone project, a report on project progress, case presentations by corporations participating in the special zone, and a space and aviation-related seminar.
In particular, Kim Gap-san, CEO of Lee's Park, who presented on behalf of the corporations participating in the special zone, said, "The 'global innovation special zone' is a useful system that leads regional corporations with new industries and new technologies into overseas markets," adding, "We hope related ministries and relevant agencies will continue to show interest so that the special zone's demonstration outcomes can lead to exports."
KOSME Chairperson Kang Seok-jin said, "As the dedicated agency for the global innovation special zone, KOSME will work not only on overseas certification and demonstrations but also to resolve difficulties across the overall operations of corporations, including financing and personnel," emphasizing, "We will do our best to help the regional economy regain vitality through support for the special zone."
