K Shipbuilding said on the 22nd that it recently signed a shipbuilding contract with a Europe-based shipping company for two 50,000-ton(t) class petrochemical product carriers, totaling 129 billion won. The vessels awarded in this order are scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2027.
The ordered vessels meet the strengthened environmental regulations of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). They satisfy level 3 of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) and are characterized by a design that allows easy conversion to eco-friendly fuel propulsion systems such as liquefied natural gas (LNG) or methanol.
With this, K Shipbuilding said it has achieved total orders of 10 vessels this year, worth 820 billion won (including two options).
A K Shipbuilding official said, "This is a result achieved with all-out support from the major shareholder UAMCO (United Asset Management Company). Through this year's order activities, we will maximize profitability and work to establish ourselves as a strong player in the midsize ship market."
