The Ministry of SMEs and Startups said on the 19th that it held the eighth roundtable at Daejeon Lycon Town for "recovery and safety net reinforcement for small business owners."
This roundtable was prepared to hear opinions on the "recovery support plan for disaster-affected small business owners," which is under discussion among relevant government ministries, as the revision of the Framework Act on the Management of Disasters and Safety (hereinafter the Disaster and Safety Act) has specified support details for small business owners hit by disasters. The Disaster and Safety Act will take effect on Nov. 28.
The recovery support plan for disaster-affected small business owners, led by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, includes details such as damage assessment guidelines and support unit price standards.
At the roundtable, participants also discussed ways to balance the national fiscal capacity with support for facility restoration and business stabilization for affected small business owners. In addition, opinions were offered that, separate from government support, publicity and education should be carried out so that small business owners can strengthen their own disaster preparedness capabilities, and that enrollment in wind and flood damage insurance and the traditional market fire mutual aid should be encouraged.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups plans to finalize the support plan through inter-ministerial consultations and stakeholder feedback by the effective date of the Disaster and Safety Act, and to establish a multidimensional and practical support system so that small business owners and the self-employed can return to normal more quickly in the event of future disasters.
