Hanwha Group Vice Chairman Kim Dong-kwan, who visited the United Kingdom to attend the European Union's largest defense exhibition, the "Defense and Security Equipment International (DESI 2025)," met with newly appointed U.K. Investment Minister Jason Stockwood to discuss cooperation in defense and space.
According to the industry on the 12th, Vice Chairman Kim attended DESI 2025, held in London since the 9th, and met with the Minister. Officials from U.S. defense company Lockheed Martin were also said to have joined the meeting.
On the 11th (local time), Minister Stockwood said on the business-focused social network LinkedIn, "At DESI, I met with Hanwha and Lockheed Martin officials to discuss the advantages the U.K. can offer as a manufacturing hub, and I am pleased to reaffirm our commitment to supporting corporations," adding, "From military flight training systems to space strategy, we will create an environment in the U.K. where corporations can thrive."
The United Kingdom announced a "defense industry strategy" to invest 770 million pounds over the next three years, make defense a growth engine, and aim for industrial support and the creation of jobs and innovation.
Hanwha had all three of its defense affiliates—Hanwha Aerospace, Hanwha Ocean, and Hanwha Systems—participate in this year's DESI 2025. The three defense companies unveiled the K9 self-propelled howitzer and Cheonmu, bestsellers of Korea's defense industry.
