BYD unveiled the SEAL 6 DM-i TOURING at IAA Mobility 2025. It also formalized the models that will be produced at BYD factories in Europe. The DOLPHIN SURF, which earned the top five-star rating from Euro NCAP, has been confirmed as the first model to be produced locally in Europe.
BYD wanted to use this mobility event as a stage to cement its position as the world's largest new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer. It confirmed the vehicles to be produced in Europe and unveiled the super hybrid model SEAL 6 DM-i TOURING, which can run an impressive 1,350km.
At an official press conference held at the IAA Mobility 2025 Munich venue, BYD vice president Stella Li shared important news related to the recently released compact electric car and World Urban Car of the Year award winner BYD DOLPHIN SURF. She said it had received the top five-star rating in Euro NCAP's safety assessment.
Li also said the BYD DOLPHIN SURF will be the first production model from BYD's European factory under construction in Szeged, Hungary. The plant is progressing smoothly with a target completion by the end of 2025, and it is expected to be the starting point of the "Built in Europe, for Europe" strategy.
Vice president Stella Li said, "Europe is an extremely important market for BYD," and added, "It is meaningful to announce at Europe's largest motor show that the symbolic model DOLPHIN SURF will be the first vehicle produced in Hungary. Earning Euro NCAP's top safety rating is another achievement, and it is a clear example that BYD's technology-focused approach delivers real and meaningful value to customers."
Li also said BYD's innovative technology "Flash Charging" will be introduced in Europe sooner than planned. Between 200 and 300 charging stations are scheduled to be installed by the second quarter of 2026, and the luxury brand DENZA will lead this change.
At the Munich event, BYD also announced a certified pre-owned program for its models (BYD Certified Pre-owned). Vehicles sold through this program will receive benefits such as a 179-point detailed inspection, a guaranteed battery health of at least 90%, warranty coverage, emergency roadside assistance, and data services, offering the same reliability and satisfaction as buying a new car.
At the press conference, BYD's first wagon-style super hybrid model, the BYD SEAL 6 DM-i TOURING, was unveiled in Europe for the first time. This model, which applies DM hybrid technology, offers a combined driving range of more than 1,300km.
Two years ago at IAA Mobility in Munich, BYD introduced its sixth European model, the SEAL U, and with the addition of the BYD SEAL 6 DM-i TOURING, BYD's lineup in Europe has expanded to a total of 13 models.
Outside the exhibition hall, at Munich's Odeonplatz and Königsplatz, the DENZA Z9GT and D9 MPV are on display, and the first European demonstration of 1,000kW flash charging was held. It proved that about 400km of driving range can be secured with just five minutes of charging.
