The Cross Country of Volvo Cars has quietly secured loyal customers. The solid and stable stance of this car, which cannot be experienced in other car classes, is its charm. Such a Cross Country has entered the pure electric vehicle domain.
Volvo Cars Korea (CEO Lee Yoon-mo) unveiled the brand's first pure electric Cross Country, EX30 Cross Country (hereafter EX30CC), combining a bold and compact SUV design with a powerful and adventurous package on the 4th. The selling price is set at 55.16 million won, which is more than 35 million won cheaper compared to major global markets. Based on the price from official websites in each country (reflecting the September 4th exchange rate), the UK is at £40,560 (approximately 85.2 million won), Sweden is at 609,000 kronor (approximately 89.91 million won), Germany is at €57,290 (approximately 92.95 million won), and Japan is at ¥6,490,000 (approximately 60.95 million won).
The Cross Country, which first appeared in the global market in 1997, is a unique lineup that Volvo Cars has established in the automotive industry. It was developed to provide excellent performance and comfort expected by the driver even in Sweden's harsh winters and rough terrains.
The EX30CC is the first model to combine the strong legacy of Cross Country with a pure electric SUV. It features an innovative 5-seater SUV that embodies the Scandinavian design value of "form follows function," with a high ground clearance, sturdy and unique exterior details, and an all-wheel drive (AWD) system. Additionally, it supports enjoying various daily adventures in a safe, comfortable, and responsible manner with the brand's historically most powerful performance twin motor, reaching 100 km/h from a standstill in just 3.7 seconds.
The exterior of the EX30CC emphasizes Cross Country's unique character with new elements that highlight its balanced body proportions and bold SUV silhouette, emphasizing powerful performance and sturdiness.
To achieve this, an original atmosphere was created with the front design in black shield and trunk lid, and a topographical map of the Kebnekaise mountain range in Abisko, Sweden, along with longitude and latitude coordinates, were engraved on the front shield. The contrasting low-gloss vapor gray colored front and rear skid plates harmonize with the lower bumper design, completing a robust and unified exterior.
New 19-inch Cross Country exclusive wheels harmonizing with extensions around the wheel arches in matte black and graphite colors emphasize the powerful look with a ground clearance raised by 19mm compared to the existing EX30. The exterior colors can be chosen from four colors inspired by the Nordic nature (vapor gray, cloud blue, crystal white, onyx black).
The smart and minimalist interior design of the 'Pine Room' theme, inspired by the pine and fir leaves of Scandinavian forests, also reflects the robust style of the EX30CC.
The interior, finished in charcoal color, creates a modern yet cozy atmosphere using natural materials such as responsibly produced wool and recycled polyester blended wool, as well as bio-material Nordico made from pine oil obtained from nature in Sweden and Finland. Additionally, elements like wool blend door inserts, natural flaxseed used in decor, black headlining, transparent air vents, sports steering wheel, and five ambient light themes inspired by Scandinavian nature, along with stone grain interior panel finishes reflecting patterns of granite found in Mariestads, Sweden, enhance the Swedish premium emotional quality.
The space designed as a 5-seater SUV includes smart storage spaces for all passengers, with wide door pockets and innovative multifunctional storage solutions for the driver and front passenger. Additionally, basic features include an indoor filter that effectively removes fine dust (PM2.5) and pollen that enters the cabin, as well as a dual-zone air conditioning system. Furthermore, three new indoor environmental support modes that help enhance the driver's mood and provide a pleasant environment are also introduced.
When using the 'refresh mode' that provides a refreshing feeling in a short time, the air conditioning system operates at maximum for about 3 minutes to exchange the indoor air and adjusts the lighting to a comfortable state. The 'rest mode' adjusts the seat position, indoor lighting, and temperature according to the time set by the driver. The 'parking comfort mode,' which supports a pleasant environment for situations where one remains in the car after parking, maintains the air conditioning function and entertainment system operation for up to 8 hours or until the battery level drops below 20%.
It features a 1040W premium sound system from Harman Kardon that includes an innovative soundbar integrating tweeters, mid-range speakers, and woofer outlets on the dashboard, providing an immersive audio experience.
The EX30CC will be launched in a single trim called Twin Motor Performance, combining a 50:50 weight distribution with a 66 kWh nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) battery and two motors, along with an all-wheel drive (AWD) system. It offers the most dynamic performance in the brand's history, reaching 100 km/h from a standstill in just 3.7 seconds with a maximum motor output of 428 horsepower and a maximum torque of 55.4 kg.m. Additionally, a one-pedal drive supporting three modes perfectly aligns with the driver's intentions.
Particularly, the comfort chassis tuned specifically for Cross Country provides a comfortable and pleasant ride over various surfaces, equipped with an all-wheel drive system with one electric motor each on the front and rear axles to ensure excellent driving stability under any road and weather conditions.
The driving range on a single charge is approximately 329 km based on combined standards (Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy standards), and it can be charged from 10% to 80% in about 28 minutes via fast (DC) charging at a maximum of 153 kW. Of course, the charging time may vary depending on the type of charger, battery condition, and external temperature.
The EX30CC is also equipped with Volvo's advanced safety technology, 'Safe Space Technology,' which protects the driver from accident risks and minimizes accident damage. It includes five radars, five cameras, and twelve ultrasonic sensors that protect the driver, passengers, and others on the road.
Included are features such as the Driver Alert System and Door Opening Alert, along with Pilot Assist, Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with Steer Assist, Run-off Road Mitigation, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and next-generation Park Pilot Assist, all providing flagship-level safety.
Connectivity based on Qualcomm's next-generation Snapdragon® Cockpit Platform supports next-generation user experiences and Volvo Car UX, enabling fast responses and smooth connections. Notably, the best navigation service in Korea, T-map Auto, the AI service NUGU Auto, boasting over 96% Korean recognition rate, and the T-map store supporting third-party apps are integrated, along with the addition of Naver's Whale browser for vehicles. This allows for enjoying diverse entertainment content such as OTT, SNS, and music streaming in the car.
Lee Yoon-mo, CEO of Volvo Cars Korea, noted, "EX30CC is not just a car, but the brand's first pure electric SUV-based Cross Country model that provides a new experience. With the EX30CC, which offers freedom of movement across diverse lifestyles that transcend urban and nature, daily life and leisure, we will do our best to ensure the highest satisfaction for our customers throughout their journey with Volvo Cars."
The domestic selling price is 55.16 million won (price after eco-friendly tax benefits, excluding subsidies), offering a variety of benefits as basic, such as industry-best 5-year or 100,000 km warranty on general parts and exchange services, 8-year/160,000 km warranty on high-voltage batteries, 15 years of free wireless updates (OTA), and a 5-year subscription to the digital service package.
In addition, customers who purchased a Volvo vehicle through official dealers (within 6 years/120,000 km) will receive an additional 500,000 won when purchasing EX30CC. (Existing vehicle must be held until release) Furthermore, they can receive additional incentives provided by the government this year to enhance eco-friendly vehicle competitiveness, such as reductions in special consumption tax, acquisition tax, subsidies for first-time EV purchases by young people, and additional subsidies for multi-child households, thus allowing for a more reasonable purchase.
