Mercedes-Benz Korea Co., Ltd. has launched a limited edition vehicle, the 'G-Class Edition STRONGER THAN THE 1980s,' dedicated to the first model of the 'legendary off-roader' G-Class.
The 'G-Class Edition STRONGER THAN THE 1980s' is a limited edition model made in tribute to the first G-Class model series W 460, which captivated people's hearts with its unique charm that combined on-road and off-road performance since its first launch in 1979.
A total of 460 units of the vehicle will be produced worldwide in two versions: G 450 d and G 500, of which 25 units of the G 450 d model will be sold in Korea.
This limited edition model incorporates G-Class's unparalleled advanced technology and driving performance with three historic colors borrowed from the representative model 280 GE of the 1980s W460 series, unique design elements, and special equipment to satisfy the aspirations of G-Class enthusiasts and collectors.
The vehicle will be offered in three colors: 'MANUFAKTUR agave green' (10 units), 'MANUFAKTUR cream' (10 units), and 'MANUFAKTUR Colorado beige' (5 units), one of the first color options of the G-Class in the 1980s.
'MANUFAKTUR agave green' is based on a green color reminiscent of the earth, symbolizing strength and intimacy with nature while emphasizing the outstanding off-road performance of the historical G-Class. 'MANUFAKTUR cream' is a classic and timeless color that exudes elegance and sophistication, popular among those who mainly used the G-Class in urban environments at that time. 'MANUFAKTUR Colorado beige' is a warm color evoking sand, conveying a sense of adventure and freedom. These colors highlight the versatile characteristics of the 1980s G-Class.
Various design elements have also been incorporated.
The vehicle's iconic turn signals feature the typical orange color of the 1980s. To complete the vintage look, the front of the vehicle, radiator grille, bumpers, wheel arches, and external mirror housings are finished in the Night Black Magno color, reflecting the impression of the early G-Class. The hood features a historical emblem design with the Mercedes-Benz logo and laurel wreath pattern on a blue background, and the rear door of the vehicle is adorned with the 1980s Mercedes-Benz logo and edition-specific spare wheel cover.
In addition, the external side mirrors of the vehicle are equipped with logo projectors, welcoming the driver and passengers with the text "G – STRONGER THAN TIME" illuminated on the ground as they enter the vehicle.
The center of the black leather seats inside the vehicle features fabric with a popular dove-gray check pattern from that time. The trim molding on the grip handle on the passenger side is engraved with the phrase 'STRONGER THAN THE 1980s.' The front door sill panels feature a topographic map of Mount Schöckl near Graz, Austria, symbolizing the test track where the G-Class has demonstrated its outstanding off-road performance since 1979. The 'Schöckl Proved' badge on the lower part of the B-pillar reflects the classic style of the 1980s. Each vehicle's center console highlights its rarity with the phrase '1 of 460.'
The vehicle is equipped with various convenience features highly preferred by G-Class customers, including a multifunction steering wheel wrapped in Nappa leather, a sliding sunroof, and the Burmester® 3D surround sound system.
The price of the 'G-Class Edition STRONGER THAN THE 1980s' is 218.2 million won (including value-added tax and reflecting the reduction of the special consumption tax).
The Mercedes-Benz G-Class surpassed a global cumulative production of 600,000 units last August, marking a new milestone. Since its first launch in 1979, the vehicle has evolved over 45 years, receiving continuous support from enthusiasts as a unique off-road icon based on its iconic design and powerful performance.
