SK Gas announced on the 4th that its liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering subsidiary, Eco Marine Fuel Solutions, has signed a fuel supply contract with Hyundai GLOVIS.
With this contract, Eco Marine Fuel Solutions will supply LNG for vessels to Hyundai GLOVIS. SK Gas is planning to build LNG bunkering infrastructure for the stable operation of Hyundai GLOVIS's eco-friendly car carriers.
Hyundai GLOVIS is expected to introduce more than 30 LNG dual-fuel-powered car carriers by 2028. The company aims to take the lead in the LNG bunkering market by promoting the creation of an LNG bunkering ecosystem centered around southeastern ports such as Ulsan, Busan, and Gwangyang, which are major ports for car carriers in Korea.
Once the infrastructure is established, Hyundai GLOVIS's vessels will be able to securely receive fuel through Eco Marine Fuel Solutions at nearby ports in the southeastern region.
SK Gas views LNG bunkering as a medium- to long-term growth driver. Yoon Byeong-seok, CEO of SK Gas, said, "Decarbonization in the shipping industry is a global challenge, and building LNG bunkering infrastructure is the first step. Through this contract, we will expand eco-friendly energy solutions and actively support the domestic shipping and logistics industry in securing global competitiveness."
