Kia has surpassed cumulative sales of 1 million units after 37 years since entering the Australian market.
Kia held a ceremony on the 3rd at the Motorama dealership in Queensland's northeast, attended by Chief Operating Officer Dennis Piccoli, Kia Australia's brand ambassador Patrick Rafter, and the 1 millionth vehicle buyer James Allendorf.
It was in the form of handing over the vehicle to James Allendorf, who purchased the Kia Tasman Dual Cab model, but it also carried the significance of commemorating the milestone of surpassing cumulative sales of 1 million units.
Since entering the Australian market in 1988, Kia launched a sales corporation in 2006. After 30 years in Australia, it recorded cumulative sales of 500,000 units in 2018, and in 2025, just 7 years later, it achieved the milestone of surpassing cumulative sales of 1 million units.
The most sold model was the Cerato (currently K4), with a total of 200,780 units sold, followed by the Sportage with 188,159 units, the Rio with 166,062 units, and the Carnival with 123,854 units.
Kia is enhancing its brand competitiveness by introducing a variety of vehicle lineups in Australia. Leading the compact car market is the Picanto, along with the Carnival, which has established itself as the best-selling minivan in Australia, and the expansion of the electric lineup with EV3 and EV5, as well as the newly launched pickup truck Tasman in April.
Kia Australia CEO Damian Meredith noted, "The achievement of 1 million cumulative sales of new cars is evidence of the efforts that each dealership has devoted to the Kia brand," adding, "Without customers who choose Kia vehicles without hesitation when buying a new car, we wouldn't have reached the milestone of 1 million units."
Kia Australia's Chief Operating Officer Dennis Piccoli stated, "Kia vehicles have evolved, and perceptions of the brand have changed, and these two factors have played an important role in Kia's continuous growth," further stating, "Kia is developing in a very competitive and challenging manner in Australia, and with an exciting new product lineup ahead, the cumulative sale of 1 million units is a new starting point."
Meanwhile, Kia's market share in Australia, which recorded 2.2% at the time of the corporation's establishment in 2006, has jumped more than three times to 6.9% on a cumulative basis as of July this year. In 2022, it achieved the third highest annual sales by brand and the highest dealer satisfaction, while in 2024, it recorded its first annual sales of 80,000 units.
