Kia has launched the 'The Kia EV5 (The Kia EV5, hereafter EV5)' and will start accepting orders from the 4th.
EV5 is the fifth dedicated electric vehicle model based on the E-GMP, following the EV6, EV9, EV3, and EV4, and is a family-oriented electric vehicle featuring a genuine SUV body type. Safety, convenience specifications, and space utilization are the competitive advantages of this car.
Jeong Won-jeong, head of Kia's Domestic Business Division, noted at a media event held on the 2nd that "the EV5 is a representative model that presents a new standard in the domestic EV popularization era, based on excellent space utilization from a genuine SUV body type," and added, "The EV5 will be the most attractive option for customers considering a reasonable family electric vehicle purchase."
The interior of the EV5 embodies a boldness harmonizing with nature, bringing out Kia's unique sportiness and innovation. It features differentiated atmospheres applied with different patterns based on lines crossing the crash pad, and the crash pad gives the impression of a beautiful sculpture, carved and refined from natural materials. Additionally, it has a length of 4610mm, width of 1875mm, height of 1675mm, and a wheelbase of 2750mm, offering a spacious interior compared to existing compact electric vehicles. Notably, the 1041mm second-row legroom provides a class-leading, spacious, and comfortable rear seat area.
Kia provides a comfortable and pleasant space in the EV5's interior by applying various specifications to accommodate all passengers in the first and second rows.
The first row includes relaxation comfort seats that aid in comfortable resting positions, and the driver's seat features an Ergo Motion Seat, while the center console offers storage space accessible to both first and second-row passengers, enhancing convenience. The second row features flat-folding seats, allowing customers to utilize the space for both daily life and outdoor activities through a connection with the luggage area. Additionally, an expandable center console that can be opened and closed using a sliding method is installed in the second row, with a sliding cover that also serves as a cupholder in the second-row center sliding cover armrest. The three-zone climate control system allows independent control of heating and cooling functions for the driver's seat, front passenger seat, and second row, and a seatback table is also provided for second-row passengers.
The EV5 adopts a column-type electronic shift lever to enhance user intuitiveness, and it features a panoramic wide display that combines a 12.3-inch cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment system display, along with a 5-inch climate control display, making the front interior space appear even more spacious.
The EV5 maximizes the sense of openness in the vehicle's interior through a panoramic sunroof that expands the spatial feel of the SUV. It features a spacious luggage area of 965 liters (SAE standard, 566 liters under VDA standards), supplemented with a luggage board for added storage convenience, and enhances space utilization with the Kia AddGear that allows various storage spaces and hooks for small items on the luggage side.
The exterior design of the EV5 emphasizes a boxy yet dynamic silhouette based on Kia's design philosophy of Opposites United, which creatively blends contrasting concepts.
The front end gives a strong impression with a wide and sturdy skid plate and hood, while the vertically arranged LED headlamps and daytime running lights (DRL) with star map signature lighting showcase the sophistication and confidence of a representative model for the popularization of EVs. The side view visually presents a spacious rear seat area and wide luggage space through the boxy silhouette of the tailgate and D-pillar, and the square fenders create a confident image. The vertically and horizontally extended rear combination lamps, along with a clean and wide tailgate design, enhance the sophisticated and robust feel of the SUV.
The EV5 GT-Line emphasizes a dynamic and sporty feel with its diagonal front lower grille pattern, exclusive 19-inch alloy wheels, three-spoke steering wheel, exclusive headrest engraved with the GT-Line logo, and black headlining.
The EV5 is equipped with an 81.4kWh NCM battery, a 160kW front-wheel drive motor, and a rear multi-link suspension, offering a maximum output of 160kW, a maximum torque of 295Nm, and a driving range of 460km on a single charge with an energy efficiency of 5.0km/kWh. With a 350kW charger, it takes about 30 minutes to charge the battery from 10% to 80%, providing a convenient charging environment even for long-distance travel.
Kia has applied the i-Pedal 3.0 to the EV5, allowing acceleration, deceleration, and stopping with only the accelerator pedal operation at all stages of regenerative braking, thereby enhancing driving convenience as well as passenger comfort. It is equipped with the Smart Regenerative Braking System 3.0, which can automatically set the optimal amount of regenerative braking based on real-time traffic flow and various navigation information.
Kia has applied advanced driver assistance systems to the EV5 to support comfortable and safe mobility for customers. Basic safety assistance features include acceleration limitation assistance and pedal misoperation safety assistance, which reduce the risk of accidents when the driver mistakenly presses the vehicle pedals.
Applied for the first time in Hyundai Motor Group, the acceleration limitation assistance warns the driver through a cluster pop-up message in the first instance when the vehicle is traveling at a speed under 80km/h and the driver has pressed the accelerator pedal deeply and for an extended period, followed by a voice message warning in the second instance, limiting the acceleration function. (※ This feature will deactivate if the driver only presses the brake pedal or fully removes their foot from the accelerator pedal for over one second.)
The pedal misoperation safety assistance notifies the driver of the pedal misoperation situation via a cluster pop-up message and warning sound in cases where obstacles (vehicles or walls) are present close to the front/rear (within 1.5m) when departing from a standing position, and it implements acceleration limitation and braking control.
The sales price of the EV5 is 48.55 million won for the Long Range Air, 52.30 million won for the Earth, and 53.40 million won for the GT Line.
